本シリーズは、「complex」という言葉が持つ「複雑さ」と「劣等感」という二つの意味を出発点にしています。
現代社会では、容姿や身体はしばしば他者の視線によって評価され、画一的な美の基準にさらされます。私は、痩身や肥満、肌の質感、身体への違和感といった個々の差異を否定するのではなく、それらが混ざり合うことで生まれる多層的な美しさを描きたいと考えました。
画面に登場する人物や蛙、蝶などのモチーフは、脆さや劣等感だけでなく、自身を守るための力も象徴しているでしょう。毒を持つ生き物が鮮やかな色彩をまとうように、コンプレックスもまた、単なる弱さではなく、その人の輪郭を形づくる一部であるのです。
本シリーズでは、傷や違和感を含んだ存在のあり方を肯定し、複雑であることそのものを美として捉え直すことを試みています。
This series takes as its point of departure the two meanings of the word complex: “complexity” and “inferiority complex.”
In contemporary society, appearance and the body are often judged through the gaze of others and subjected to uniform standards of beauty. Rather than denying individual differences such as thinness or fatness, the texture of the skin, or feelings of discomfort toward one’s own body, I wanted to depict the multilayered beauty that emerges through their coexistence and intermingling.
The motifs that appear in these works—figures, frogs, butterflies, and others—may symbolize not only vulnerability and feelings of inferiority, but also the strength one possesses in order to protect oneself. Just as poisonous creatures often bear vivid colors, complexes too are not merely signs of weakness, but part of what shapes the contours of a person.
Through this series, I attempt to affirm ways of being that include wounds and discomfort, and to reconsider complexity itself as a form of beauty.
