この作品を描こうと考えたきっかけは、自分自身が絵を描くことを諦めないと決心したことにあります。先が見えない不安感を払拭したいけれど、生きていると、タイミングや運に左右されることもしばしばだと感じています。実際、神がいるかいないかは分かりませんが、神頼みをしたくなる瞬間もあり、また、グッと両手を握り締めると気持ちが引き締まる感覚を覚えます。トンボは、後退せず、前進しかしない生き物です。その姿から、縁起物として古くから愛されてきました。その話にあやかって描きました。
前に進むことを決めたけれど、何かに縋らないと怖いと感じるひとりの人間の姿を描き出しました。
This work was inspired by my decision not to give up on painting.
I want to dispel the anxiety of not being able to see what lies ahead, yet I often feel that life is influenced by timing and chance. In truth, I do not know whether God exists or not, but there are moments when I find myself wanting to pray for help. I also feel that when I clasp my hands tightly together, my mind becomes more focused and resolute.
Dragonflies are creatures that do not move backward, but only forward. Because of this, they have long been cherished in Japan as auspicious symbols. I drew upon this association in creating this work.
Through this piece, I sought to portray a person who has resolved to move forward, yet who still feels afraid unless they can cling to something.
